Foods that Lower Cholesterol

Here are some foods that help lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase good cholesterol (HDL) and improve your heart health.

Beans
Beans are rich in soluble fiber which help to lower cholesterol. 

Add 3-4 cups of kidney, black, pinto, chickpea, navy or other types of beans to your weekly diet.






Oatmeal


Oatmeal is loaded with soluble fiber which lowers LDL cholesterol.









Salmon

Salmon is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids which help to lower LDL or bad cholesterol and increase HDL or good cholesterol

 

Avocado


Avocados are a rich source of heart-healthy mono-unsaturated fats that help to lower LDL and improve HDL levels.




Blueberries
Blueberries contain a compound called pterostilbene which helps lower bad cholesterol. Pterostilbene helps break down fat and cholesterol.  This compund is also found to have cancer fighting properties.

Walnuts and Almonds
Walnuts and Almonds are rich in mono-unsaturated fats which make them heart healthy. Eat in moderation as they are loaded with calories.








Apples
Apples contain a compound called pectin which is a soluble fiber that helps draw cholesterol out of our system. Green apples are especially good for lowering cholesterol.
